Susan, Whenever I’m around my daughter in law I feel like I can’t be myself. I am always walking on eggshells, and on guard about everything I say. I’m afraid to crack a joke or tease which is part of who I am, someone with a great sense of humor. I guess that I don’t think that I’m being authentic. signed, fake grandma Dear FG, I understand that it seems fake and that you want to be yourself. But, try not to think of it that way. Try to see the adaptations as being flexible to the situation. If you think about it, everyone alters their behavior one way or another to fit certain situations. Depending on who we are around, we do behave in different ways. So, maybe it should be adapting rather than not being authentic?
