Parents Moving Away
Some parents will stop at nothing in order to put distance between their child and the grandparents. A common tactic is to move far away and in some cases out of state. Parents think that they can discourage grandparents from visiting when they flee from the area.
Grandparents are forced to find an attorney in the new state in order to file a petition
for visitation or in some cases file in court to have an existing order recognized in the new jurisdiction. All this is necessary in the event that the parent/grandparent issues can't be resolved outside of court.
These are compelling reasons to remain on good terms with the custodial parent.
