When a grandparent, loses nine years from a grandchild's life, chances are not only will they never get it back, but starting over doesn't guarantee things will go back to the way they were.
Let's say you had an ongoing relationship with your grandchild for five years and then because of unfortunate circumstances, such as death or divorce, the custodial parent extinguishes the grandparent grandchild relationship as it had been.
Once the grandchild reaches his or her teen years and reconnects with the grandparent one way or another, the grandparent usually takes a backseat where priorities are concerned.
Maybe it's the age, the stage and the Internet that are the contributors, but nonetheless, Grandma and Grandpa are no longer so grand.
If you didn't learn how to cope during the long absence, then now is the time to do so. Release expectations and attachments and accept the situation and get on with your life!
